从上面的元音舌位图可以看出，/ɔ/ 和 /ɒ/都是圆唇后元音，但是/ɒ/的开口比/ɔ/要更大，也就是说舌位更低。
另外，在英语中/ɔ/通常是发长音 [ɔ:], 所以这是一个紧元音，而 /ɒ/ 是一个松元音。
